TURKISH Cypriot authorities will return a number of vehicles that were confiscated from Greek Cypriot police officers, according to the Turkish Cypriot press.
The vehicles, a patrol car and a motorcycle, were confiscated on October 2012 when Turkish Cypriot police arrested the Greek Cypriot officers for entering the break-away state.
The police officers were pursuing a 19-year-old man riding motorcycle.
The police officers were brought before a military ‘court’ in the north that decided to confiscate the vehicles.
According to the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu’s undersecretary Hasan Gungor is quoted as saying that the vehicles will be returned through a bi-communal office that deals with preventing crime, the ‘Joint Communications Room’ (JCR).
Gungor said that the decision was made within the context of “building trust and cooperation between the two sides”.
