Work continued at what will eventually turn out to be the new Eleftheria square with crews preparing to pour around 3,000 cubic metres of concrete over the weekend finally giving shape to the much anticipated bridge.
Crews were preparing the structure for the concrete on Wednesday, which would be poured over 24 to 30 hours during the weekend.
Residents have been warned that roads will be closed during the work, which entailed pouring some 3,000 cubic metres of concrete that will reach a thickness of 80 centimetres and form a monolithic structure.
The complex project was designed by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid.
After many delays, it is expected to be completed by September 2016.
