Paphos pushes home-grown tourism

PAPHOS aims to increase domestic tourism to the district this summer and a promotional radio campaign to this end got underway on Monday.

Under the tagline: “For luxury and adventure….this summer go to Paphos,” local tourism professionals are hoping to encourage holidaymakers from Cyprus to visit the area.

Euripides Loizides, the secretary of the Paphos hoteliers’ association and board member of the Paphos regional board of tourism told the Cyprus Mail that expectations are that there will be an increase in this sector for the summer.

“The numbers are looking good. For the Katakysmos period, hotels in Paphos were full and we are expecting increases on the numbers of domestic tourists choosing Paphos this year.”

Loizides said that the point of the radio campaign, which will run until August 5, is to build awareness of Paphos and all it has to offer.

“We want to remind people that we are an option and we are here.”

He added that discounted hotel rates apply to direct bookings from locals and that Paphos is particularly popular with visitors from Nicosia and Larnaca. He said that hotels are expecting to be busy from the start of August onwards.

Loizides said that Paphos is a good option with its beautiful countryside and clean beaches. It is also a safe environment and a cheaper alternative to travelling abroad.

A press release from the Paphos regional board of tourism said that a number of successful campaigns to promote Paphos has already got underway including information about Paphos as the European Capital of Culture 2017 and information about the Paphos countryside which includes the Akamas and the wine villages.
