Hamburgers disguised as beefburgers being recalled

By Eleni Lazarou

The health services recalled a batch of beefburgers on Thursday, which contained over 60 per cent pork meat, discovered during routine checks.

Following testing at the state lab, authorities found that the label ‘beef burgers’ was misleading as 64 per cent of the meat’s DNA tested positive for pork and thus the manufacturers failed to comply with labelling laws since they had failed to mention it.

The health services along with veterinary services are now carrying out further investigations at the manufacturer’s premises.

Some of the product is already in the possession of both consumers and food outlets.  The health ministry is urging them to return the burgers to where they were purchased from.

The expiration date of the product is 24.05.17, the date of manufacture is 24.05.16. The manufacturing company is called “A&T Kyprianou Special Food Ltd.” and the business name is “Kyprianou Special Food”. The product type is “Beef Burger” for deep freezing and the package weighs 700g. The bar code is “52900586000029”.
