Nuland ‘here to listen’

Victoria Nuland arrives at the presidential palace in Nicosia on Tuesday

US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland said she was here to listen, after meeting Tuesday evening with President Nicos Anastasiades.

On being quizzed following the meeting on whether Anastasiades had requested she convey a message to the Turkish government, the American diplomat replied “Our sole role here is to hear both sides.” and told reporters it was “a really, really good meeting, very hard working, the two leaders are working very hard. I have to go to the other side of the island and keep working.”

Nuland was also meeting Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci on Tuesday evening.
