Roman Starikovich in the car that will take him to the Dakar Rally

FOR the first time ever, the Cypriot flag will fly high in one of the toughest motorsport events in the world – the Dakar Rally. The Cypriot crew is part of the Autolife team with Roman Starikovich from Limassol and Bert Heskes from the Netherlands.

The team has entered the event on January 2-14, 2017 with a “Desert Warrior” based on the Range Rover chassis and has a BMW engine with all the prep work undertaken by the British team “Rally Raid”.

Initially held in 1979 as the Paris-Dakar Rally, and later limited to Africa, the race is now held in the Americas and specifically within Argentina and Chile, with Buenos Aires as the final destination for all crews.

The team from Cyprus has already taken part in a rehearsal race having competed in the Hungarian Baja in August finishing fourth in the T 1.2 category.

The team will announce details about their participation at a press conference in Limassol on October 27.
