A 35-year-old resident of Paralimni was arrested after 34 cannabis plants were found in his home early on Tuesday, police said.
When the man’s car was stopped for an inspection at around 1.20am police found that it smelled strongly of cannabis. They detected three handmade cigarettes and a plastic bag containing 17 grammes of cannabis.
The driver, a hotel employee, was arrested and his home searched.
In two lighted and ventilated tents in his bedroom police officers discovered 34 cannabis plants with a height of 10 to 60 cm.
Another man from Paralimni, 20 years old, was arrested for being in possession of 450 grammes of cannabis on Monday afternoon.
The house of the unemployed man in Dherynia was searched between 2.45pm and 3.20pm. Initially members of the drug squad found one gramme of cannabis, a knife, a precision scale and €380 which they confiscated.
The 20-year-old then pointed the officers to an uninhabited house next door where they found another 450 grammes of cannabis before arresting the man.
Both suspects are expected to be remanded in court later on.
