For the seventh year in a row, the Environmental and Recycling Festival organised by Green Dot Cyprus and sponsored by the local fuel company Petrolina invites everyone for a fun day out at Acropolis park in Nicosia tomorrow.
The festival, which is dedicated to the Rethink Reduce, Reuse, Recycle campaign, will give children the chance to understand why the reduction of waste can benefit the wellbeing of our planet and, therefore, our future. But, as is well-known, lessons are better learnt if they have an element of fun attached to them, and that is exactly why this festival has been so successful over the past seven years.
The festival will start at 10am with a Zumba lesson for kids and dancing from the Polydinamo school in Nicosia. Next the kids’ imaginations will take centre stage as there will be a narration of a fairytale, told with words but also with the help of props at 10.30am.
Next, some of the students of the Strovolos Municipality open school will entertain the crowd at 11am, followed by a performance by Kyrios Kapelo – a clown act. At noon, the Edelweiss Dance Studio will entertain with some dancing just before a small comical sketch adds to the fun of the day.
There will be a break from 12.30pm until 4pm when the Strovolos Municipal Symphony Orchestra will start the afternoon events. The dance part of the day will be taken over by dancers from the Dancewaves Dance Academy and then the Rebel Dancers will entertain the festival with some of their hip-hop moves.
The day will start to cool down with a fitness session at 6pm, more dancing at 6.30pm and then the last performance of the day will be a live performance of some rembetika songs.
There will also be some stalls at the festival, where a number of local organisations that offer activities for children and children’s health will be present. These include Little Kickers who will be getting the kids involved in a football game, Body Balance with Shara Loucantoni, and cooking workshops.
