Police said on Sunday it was a miracle that no one was killed in Larnaca on Saturday night when officers caught a 19-year-old speeding at 140kph in a residential zone where the limit was 50kph.
At around 9.45pm, they said, when there were crowds of people out and about due to the Kataklysmos weekend events, a patrol clocked the teen going at 140kph.
When they flagged him down for inspection, he just kept going, even running a red light.
Officers managed to intercept him shortly afterwards. He was taken to a police station, charged and released.
“And this at the end of a week during which we mourned five people from three fatal accidents,” a police statement said.
