The University of Cyprus has increased its world ranking by 44 places in the last six months and by 178 places in the last 18 months, according to Webometrics rankings.
It is now in 652nd position, up from 696 half a year ago.
An announcement by the university on Tuesday said it is now ranked higher than the University of Aston and the University of Coventry, according to this specific rankings’ group.
Among Greek speaking universities, the institution is in seventh place, higher ranked than universities such as the Athens University of Economics and the University of Macedonia.
The Webometrics Ranking of World Universities is an initiative of the Cybermetrics Lab, a research group belonging to the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), the largest public research body in Spain.
The group carries out the independent survey on the performance of academic and research institutions every six months.
In Cyprus, the University of Cyprus comes first in terms of the quality of education, academic personnel and research, followed by the Cyprus University of Technology and the University of Nicosia.
