Crews are working to restore electricity to areas in the Parissinos and Archangelos areas in Nicosia that experienced a power cut due to damage to underground cables, the spokesperson of the Electricity Authority (EAC) said on Monday.
Electricity went out at around 5.30pm in those areas, and crews expect to restore the power supply between 9.00pm and 9.30pm.
The utility said that a combination of very high temperatures and humidity in tandem with very high demand had damaged underground power transmission cables as they contract, causing their joints to crack.
Crew were prioritising providing electricity to the affected areas from an alternative source, the EAC said, before restoring the damage.
