Paphos court remanded a woman for eight days on Wednesday in connection with forgery and theft of €55,000.
The accused woman, a 55-year-old resident of Paphos, is an employee of an insurance company.
The offences which were committed between 2016 and June 12, 2017 in Paphos were discovered and reported by the director of the Nicosia-based insurance company.
Following an audit it became clear that the suspect repeatedly received money from customers and instead of giving it to her employers kept it for her own use.
The woman’s lawyer, Elena Taliotou, did not object to the remand because, as she said in court, the authorities have a lot of material to sift through.
Investigator Yiannakis Manouris said police requested the eight-day remand because 146 deposits received by the employee had to be investigated.
The suspect reportedly admitted to have taken the €55,000 and pledged to pay back the amount in installments. Police say she has already repaid €13,000.
