LUIS Fonsi, singer of the song of the year, Despacito, now has his own star in Ayia Napa’s Celebrity Square, it was announced on Friday.
The Puerto Rican artist, who was on the island this week for a concert in Ayia Napa as part of his ‘Love and Dance’ world tour, was welcomed on Thursday by mayor, Yiannis Karousos.
According to an announcement, the two men unveiled the plaque, while Karousos gave Fonsi a miniature replica of the original as a memento.
Fonsi said that this was his first time in Cyprus and Ayia Napa and that he was impressed by the beauty of the area. He added that he would return for holidays with his family.
Fonsi, whose song Despacito, has more than six billion hits on YouTube, was also named as an ambassador of Ayia Napa tourism.
Ayia Napa’s Celebrity Square also hosts plaques with the names of Chris Brown, o Paul Van Dyke, Snoop Dogg, Nana Mouskouri, Vicky Leandros and Mario Frangoulis.
