Monthly tourist arrivals exceeded the half a million mark for the first time in July, reaching 531,000, which was a 10 per cent increase on July 2016.
The highest ever arrival of tourists was recorded in 2016, reaching 3.2 million. It was a 20 per cent increase (500,000 visitors) on the previous year and the first time the total went over the three-million mark.
In the first seven months of this year, the number of tourist arrivals rose 15 per cent to 1,994,236, Cystat said. The figure is also an all-time high for January to July. Tourism accounts directly or indirectly for roughly a quarter of Cyprus’s economy, which is forecast to grow by 2.9 per cent in 2017.
