After two persons who posed as painters stole €6,000 and some jewellery from an elderly couple on Sunday afternoon police warned the public to be very careful and not let unknown people into their homes.
Two persons aged around 30 to 35 approached the couple at their home in the Larnaca district with two children who are believed to be 8 to 10 years old, saying they were house painters and asking the 77-year-old woman and 78-year-old man if they wanted the outside of their house painted.
They reportedly asked to go inside to discuss the proposition. The woman then offered to help the 77-year-old woman to make coffee while a man and one of the children asked to go to the toilet.
Almost immediately afterwards they made an excuse to leave.
After they left, the 78-year-old husband found that a drawer in the bedroom was open and € 6,000 and jewellery of as yet unknown value were missing.
Police urge the public not to trust anybody who wants to enter their residence and asks those who are aware of suspicious actions related to such incidents to contact the nearest police station or call the citizens’ hotline at 1460.
