The United Nations’ Good Offices mission for a Cyprus settlement will resume as soon as the parties have an agreement for those good offices to be put in place, Secretary General Antonio Guterres has said.
During a news conference on the occasion of the opening of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Guterres was asked by the Cyprus News Agency to clarify the prerequisites in order to continue with his good offices mission for Cyprus.
“It’s very simple,” he replied.
“I plan to use my good offices as soon as the parties are in agreement for those good offices to be put in place.”
Asked about the release date of his good offices report on Cyprus, Gutteres said, moreover, that “we are still working on it”.
“The report, […] we are still working on it,” the UN chief said.
“I hope we will be presenting it probably end of this month, beginning of next month, after the high‑level session, which, as you can imagine, we are all completely overwhelmed. But it is to come soon.”
