Cooperation with the archbishop has been excellent over the past five years, President Nicos Anastasiades said on Monday, as he took part in a luncheon to celebrate Archbishop Chrysostomos’ name day.
Arriving at the archbishopric, Anastasiades wished all the best to the church primate and tiptoed around a question on whether he hoped Chrysostomos would support him in his election bid and whether their cooperation would continue in the future.
“I am not involving his Beatitude in the election, but it is a fact and the truth that we’ve had excellent cooperation on all matters relating to religion, education, and our national issue,” the president said.
The luncheon was attended by representatives of the island’s political, church, and military leadership.
The archbishop’s name day is a holiday for public schools.
