Charles Dicken’s A Christmas Carol is a classic around this time of year. From novel to screen, to cartoons, to muppets playing the supporting roles, to theatre productions, the story never tires of being told and we never tire of hearing it. This is why Theatro Ena in Nicosia will share the spirit of Christmas until January 14 every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Speaking about the run of the production, the theatre’s artistic director Andreas Christodoulides said “humour, entertainment, mystery and the spirit of Christmas all roll into one, making this the most appropriate production to put on just before the big day. This work will bring the spirit of Christmas into the theatre, this is why I chose it, but also because it inspires every director, it provides him or her with the chance to let their imagination run wild in order to share the magical season with viewers, young and old.”
The story concentrates on Ebenezer Scrooge, an old miser who is visited by the ghosts of his former business partner Jacob Marley and then the ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future. After he travels to his past to see his children and remember the love he lost, he is transported to others around him in the present and sees how his nephew loves him even though he is so stuck in his ways, and he is taken to see his ultimate demise. He wakes up on Christmas morning a changed man.
