The Christmas fairytale The Nutcracker, as presented by the Bolshoi ballet, will be screened on Sunday in more than 1,700 cinemas in over 60 countries in HD and 5.1 sound, and K-Cineplex in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos will enable us to join in the festive magic.
Yuri Grigorovich’s version of The Nutcracker has seen great success in cinemas over the last couple of years, with more than 330,000 spectators ready to see how the mouse king is defeated.
The young principals of the Bolshoi, Anna Nikulina and Denis Rodkin, who are favourite dancers of the legendary choreographer Grigorovich – a mainstay of the Bolshoi Ballet at 90 years old – take on the parts of Marie and The Prince in this performance.
The two-act story brings to the stage – and screen – the universal themes of power, love and evil, together with a fairytale setting and enchanting costumes. As the clock strikes midnight on Christmas Eve, Marie’s wooden nutcracker doll comes to life and transforms into a prince. Soon joined by her other toys, that have also come to life, Marie and her prince embark on a dreamy unforgettable adventure.
This joyful production on Tchaikovsky’s timeless score makes The Nutcracker the perfect ballet for the whole family to enjoy over the holiday season. It is also a chance to introduce ballet to younger generations and for anyone who has not seen the Bolshoi ballet in action to do so.
Screening of the ballet by the Bolshoi ballet. December 17. K Cineplex Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos. 7pm. €8/10. Tel: 24-819022
