After having finished its display in Paphos as part of the European Capital of Culture Pafos 2017 events, the photography exhibition ‘Manda-La in Cyprus’ by Japanese photographer Masahiro Usami will visit Nicosia tomorrow.
The exhibition is part of the Japanese Eyes on Cyprus project and it is also part of the Manda-La photography series. Usami has been working on this project for over two decades, travelling from Hokkaido to Okinawa to photograph groups of people arranged to resemble the mandala religious symbols of Buddhist art. The idea is that a main figure is set within the photograph in order to represent its detailed life and environment.
After his recent visit to Paphos, photographs capturing the everyday lives of people living in the city have been added to the collection.
