Alphamega supermarkets and Petrou bros Ltd., known for the ‘Alambra’ and ‘Yiayia’ trade marks, announced their collaboration for a good reason. Having a high sense of social sensitivity and acknowledging the problems faced by the elderly, they support the charity ‘Ayios Nektarios’.
At a press conference held on Wednesday, March 28, on World Grandma Day, the two companies talked about the action they have planned as part of the corporate social responsibility campaign ‘Our good grandmother’, urging the public to respond and help strengthening the work of the foundation. The foundation’s activity includes the operation of a house for elderly women as well as financial and intellectual support for needy families, young people and children.
In particular, from March 26 to April 11 with each purchase of a ‘Yiayia’ yoghurt from Alphamega supermarkets, consumers will contribute € 0.10 to the charity, while for each kilo of halloumi or anari of the same brand they contribute € 0.50.
Alphamega supermarket’s corporate responsibility director Elina Theodotou referred to the importance of such institutions where the elderly can have the specialised care they need. “The elderly are a vulnerable social group which needs special care and love. By joining the work of ‘Ayios Nektarios’, we declare, together with consumers, our support for older grandmothers living under the roof of the foundation and struggling daily in their own way.”
Commercial director of Dairy Petrou Bros Michalis Petrou agreed with Elina Theodotou, adding: “We ask you to support this effort with us so that we can all contribute actively to the social well-being that the grandmothers of our country deserve to have, sending the messages of our new corporate social responsibility campaign ‘Our good grandmother’.
“These actions should be an example, as the third age is marginalized, and awareness of all of us about the issues we face is essential,” Charalambos Peletie said on behalf of the charity foundation Ayios Nektariou, thanking the two companies.
