Baghdatis sent packing at Roland Garros

MARCOS Baghdatis has been beaten in the first round of the French Open at Roland Garros, the Cypriot going down 3-6 7-6 6-4 6-4 to Bernard Paire of France yesterday.

The duo were locked together at one set all on Tuesday night, with Paire up 4-3 with a break when bad light and rain stopped play.

Upon the resumption of the match on the Suzanne Lenglen show court yesterday, Paire served out the third set to take a two sets to one lead.

He broke Baghdatis again early in the fourth set on his way to serving out the match as Baghdatis had no answer in another disappointing performance.

After first round defeats in Munich, Madrid and Rome, the Cypriot is still without a win during the entire 2013 clay-court season in singles competition.
