Forest fires in Limassol and Paphos

TWO BLAZES are out of control in the Limassol and Paphos districts, fire services have said.

A blaze between the Limassol villages of Ayios Amvrosios and Ayios Therapon started at 12.30pm on Saturday, eating away at weeds and trees and edging close to homes. Fire services are coordinating fifteen fire trucks and six helicopters and planes from a number of services, including district authorities, the police, and the Sovereign Base Areas. Strong winds have been fanning the blaze and off duty staff has been called in to help, fire services said.

State broadcaster CyBC reported that a second blaze started at 2.30pm in Paphos’ Kritou Terra, burning weeds.
