Three semi-state organisations to go

The government will shut down three semi-state organisations considered no longer necessary, it was announced on Wednesday.
Two of the organisations, the wine products council and the milk industry organisation will be terminated immediately while the potato marketing board will be wound down in the next two years.
Their work will be taken over by the department of agriculture.
The move will save the state some €3.5 million per year.
The 81 people employed at the organisations will be absorbed by the state.
