Syllouris submits proposal to change constitution over judges’ wages

EVROKO leader Demetris Syllouris submitted two proposals to the house yesterday which would change the constitution allowing judges to have their wages reduced.

The Supreme Court on Friday, ruled in favour of district court judges who had appealed against the pay cuts imposed as part of the effort to save the economy, arguing that their remuneration was protected by the Constitution.

“I have prepared two proposals to change the constitution so judges salaries can be reduced, the same as all other civil servants who receive their salaries from the taxpayer,” Syllouris said.
