Suspect in butcher’s murder released

BRIEF MURDERTHE 27-YEAR-OLD Pakistani man who was arrested yesterday by police in connection with the gruesome murder of 77-year-old butcher, Georgios Stavrou on Tuesday in Aglandja was later released, police said.

According to a spokesman, the 27-year-old was later arrested after it was discovered he is currently residing illegally in Cyprus.

Stavrou was stabbed 35 times in his shop on Tuesday morning, and a bag with €1,000 euros taken from the premises


Russian sailors back for R&R

THE RUSSIAN destroyer ‘Admiral Panteleyev’ docked at Limassol port yesterday along with the tugboat ‘Fotiy Krilov’ as the crew is due shore leave.

RUSSIAN SHIP IS BACKThe ships are part of the Russian fleet which is currently in the eastern Mediterranean as tensions continue to flare in Syria. They docked at Limassol port last month, when Defence Minister, Fotis Fotiou visited the destroyer after being invited by the Russian Ambassador.

They are due to leave next Saturday morning to meet up with the rest of the fleet.
