Poultry disease still not under control

The veterinary services were on Tuesday investigating the possibility of another case of the Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) in a poultry farm in the Mammari area.

The head of the vet services, Giogos Kyriakides, said on state radio earlier this morning the farm has the same owner and is just a kilometre away from the two other infected ones.

Kyriakides said that the danger is not yet over and the services are trying to contain the virus to the Mammari area.

There is no treatment for NDV and till now more than 130,000 chickens have been destroyed and more may follow.
