Bar review: Prozak, Nicosia

By Alexia Papakyriacou

If you are looking for a different place to hang out away from the usual culture of the city, the new cafe bar Prozak in Nicosia could be the place for you.
Situated in a quiet street away from the noisy avenues and near the city centre, Prozak offers a unique, laid-back atmosphere not found in many cafés, with indoor and outdoor sitting, comfortable chairs made by the owner and small round tables in different colors. The chill out music in combination with the beautiful paintings of Anna Apostolou that decorate the space brings to mind a café-gallery instead of just a café. There is also a bookcase with philosophy and psychology books that can be borrowed for free and a variety of magazines about architecture and design.
When it comes to ordering, Prozak offers alcoholic/non alcoholic beverages such as coffees, soft drinks, beers, shots, ouzo, retsina, koumantaria and special beverages made by the owner Orestis like egglezouda sour (brandy sour with fresh lemonade) and ouzo with pomegranate juice. On my night out I had an anna-banana recommended by Orestis which is a mixture of mastiha liquor and lemonade which turned out to be a very tasteful surprise.
Prozak opens daily from 11am to 11pm except Sundays. The café has been in operation for the last two months and the visiting are mostly between 25 and 35 years old. Several events took place at Prozak like fashion designers shows and more are set to follow. According to the bar’s co-founder a workshop regarding architecture will take place soon and in September Prozak customers will have the chance to enjoy poetry nights. Also basic snacks will be added to the menu.
The new café is a perfect place for reading, chatting and hanging out while enjoying a tasteful and unusual beverage on a summer night. So hurry up! Get your laptops and visit Prozak while you can enjoy an anna-banana.
