Drugs and explosives seized

A MAN and woman were arrested on Wednesday by police in connection with charges of possessing drugs, fire arms and explosives.

In circumstances still not clear late on Wednesday night, acting on a tipoff, the Drugs Squad conducted a search for drugs in the free areas of the Famagusta district in the afternoon.

Following their search, they uncovered an amount of drugs, the size of which was not announced, a loaded pistol and a powerful explosive device.

A 40-year-old Cypriot of South African origin and a Bulgarian woman were arrested in connection with the search.

The 40-year-old is believed to work as a security guard for a well known businessman in the area who was previously the target of criminal activity.

They are due to be taken to Paralimni district court this morning for a remand hearing.
