Water sports operators relieved over temporary reprieve

WATER Sports operators have hailed the decision made by deputies on Thursday to postpone any decision on legislation which would require all operators to apply to their local municipalities for licences to run their businesses.

“Such a law would have meant operators would have been put out of business and many people made jobless,” a statement from the operators’ association said.

The statement added that the association was ready to discuss the matter with the House interior committee, the interior ministry and everyone else involved in securing the interests of professionals in their field.

Operators held a strike on Wednesday, blocking off Limassol Marina and outside parliament on Thursday when the bill was due to be voted on.
