Jewellery and cash stolen while victim slept

Thieves stole a safe containing jewellery and cash worth around €269,000 from the home of a 60-year-old foreign woman who is a permanent resident of Limassol, police said on Saturday.

Police said the thieves entered the home in the Mesovounia area while the woman who is from Russia, was asleep between 1am and 5.30am on Saturday.

They found the small safe containing €248,650 worth of jewellery and €21,000 in cash and left the house without waking the owner.

Police said they got in through a balcony door that had been left unlocked.
