Aunt sentenced to one year for kidnapping

Limassol Criminal Court sentenced a 35-year-old woman to one year in jail on Wednesday for the abduction of her 18-month old nephew.

The court, which had found the woman guilty on July 11, took into account that she is a mother of three in deciding the length of her sentence. The court’s leniency should be seen as an opportunity to get her life back on track, the aunt was told.

Eighteen-month-old Stavros Styllis’ disappearance on February 15 had sparked a massive search, involving police, army, civil defence, municipal workers and the public.

The toddler was eventually found unharmed at the Ipsonas cemetery eight hours later.

He was found crying in a shed by a widow visiting her husband’s grave.
