Four arrests after jewellery heist

Four men were arrested and one other man remains on-the-run following a jewellery heist and high speed car chase during the early hours of Monday morning in Paphos, police said.

According to reports, at around 5.30am, the culprits smashed a jewellery shop window, grabbing a number of expensive watches and other valuables before getting in a car and speeding away.

Police arrived on the scene to examine the area, while a police helicopter was used to locate the getaway vehicle.

The burglars were swiftly located and in their attempts to escape arrest threw some of the valuables from their car at police.

The car was later found abandoned in a field in the farming area of Kissonerga. The four culprits, who were trying to make their getaway on foot, were found and arrested shortly afterwards. Police are searching for a fifth man believed to be their accomplice. The four alleged burglars are Romanian nationals, police said.

Paphos CID is investigating the incident.
