A 29-YEAR-OLD pregnant woman from Cameroon on Saturday told the Larnaca District Court that a man had kept her trapped in a house for a year, forcing her to have unprotected sex with clients he solicited.
The 29-year-old was in court after police stopped her trying to take a flight from Larnaca airport to Dusseldorf in Germany using someone else’s French identification card.
When stopped, the woman claimed she had arrived at Paphos airport a week ago from Brussels, though further investigation by immigration police found this to be not true.
The police’s minor crimes unit had asked the court for a two-day remand for the Cameroonian but the presiding judge rejected the remand request, noting that the law states pregnant women or those with children up to three years old must have committed a felony, not misdemeanour, or used violence to be kept in detention.
During the remand hearing, the 29-year-old woman alleged that in the last year, she has been kept against her will in a house and forced to have unprotected sex with clients found by her captor.
As a result, she is now pregnant without knowing who the father is, the court heard.
Larnaca police spokesman Charalambos Zachariou told the Cyprus Mail that police were investigating.
