Two Italian tourists injured in Napa scuffle

TWO Italian tourists were hospitalised on Tuesday following a scuffle between security guards and ten other compatriots of theirs in Ayia Napa, police said.

“At around 5.30am on Tuesday morning, twelve tourists were in a bar in Ayia Napa when two of them allegedly broke three glasses. Security guards escorted the pair off the premises while the other ten also left the bar and began protesting,” police spokesman Andreas Angelides said.

He added that the ten Italians reported to police that the security guards attacked them and injured six of them.

“They were taken to the emergency department of Paralimni general hospital and four of them received treatment and were released while the other two were kept for observation as their injuries were more severe,” Angelides said.

He noted that statements were being taken from both the security guards and the Italians involved in the fracas.

“The police are investigating the case so that arrest warrants can be issued for those responsible,” Angelides concluded.
