Fresh fires break out in Limassol

Fire-fighters on Monday were battling yet another fire in the Limassol district near Eptagonia and Kellaki, authorities said.

A fire service official said the fire started at 10.30am and was at some point edging close to homes but has not as yet damaged any residential units.

Some 30 fire-fighters are on the scene with nine vehicles, three helicopters and one plane.

Over the weekend, numerous blazes in Limassol, Paphos, and Nicosia damaged homes and destroyed trees, vines and wild shrub.

Two fires that broke out near Pyrgos Tyllirias, on the western border of the Nicosia district, destroyed one square kilometre of pinewood.

A fire in Episkopi which damaged homes and forced police to shut down the nearby motorway due to smoke started in a rubbish bin, reports said.
