Municipal worker detained

A 58-year-old municipal worker was remanded in custody for four days on Thursday in connection with stealing around €550 in public funds.

The man, who is employed by the Polis Chrysohous council, has been accused of allegedly filling his own car with fuel and charging it to the municipality’s account.

Police said he charged the local authority  by giving the petrol station the license number of a municipal vehicle.

In his statement to police, the 58-year-old denied the accusations and told officers that he believed that professional differences with the mayor were behind his arrest.
