The reconstruction of the island’s army forces was on the agenda of a three-hour meeting that took place Sunday at the presidential retreat in the Troodos mountains.
President Nicos Anastasiades presided over the meeting which was attended by the Ministers of Defense and Finance, the Government Spokesman, the Chief of the National Guard, the political leaders and the members of the House Defense Committee.
Speaking after the meeting, Defense Minister Photis Photiou said that the political parties and MPs were briefed about the situation in the army and the governmental strategy and road map to be followed on the reconstruction of the army forces.
Views were also exchanged on the issue of energy security as well as the alliances sought with neighbouring and other countries in order to achieve this.
Unconfirmed reports also claim that the 24 month military conscription was also discussed with a view of reducing it.
