Limassol road death

A 74-year-old man was killed on Tuesday when he was hit by a car while taking his dog for a walk in Limassol.

Italian permanent resident Franko Kapellari was trying to cross Paphos Street at around 10pm when he was hit by a car driven by a 21-year-old, police said.

Police said they were looking into the circumstances of the accident, including the spot’s inadequate lighting.

Emilios Kafas, an officer with the town’s traffic department, said police were trying to establish whether the visibility in the area had been adequate at the time.

Reports said a street lamp at the spot where the accident happened had been out of order.

Kafas said police would carry out a re-enactment of the accident.

The 21-year-old driver was questioned while a breathalyzer test came up negative.
