Free stalls at Fasouri flea market

THE FLEA market in Fasouri, Limassol is offering a designated stall area free to anyone over 16 to be used to sell items or try out business ideas for a period of four weeks as of yesterday.

The space is being offered on a first come, first served basis.

The idea, initiated by Andy Mansell, a trader at the market, is for the space to be used to sell unwanted items, for advertising a new business idea, or to be used by charities.

“Everyone is struggling at the moment and the flea market is very quiet, just like everywhere else and no one is doing anything about it.  I spoke to the organisers and they agreed that we could offer free the space to get things moving,” Mansell said.

“Many people have ideas for new businesses but have no money to advertise them or get them running, so the market is offering this free of charge,” Mansell said.

In the past stall space has been used to sell double-glazing or to advertise swimming pool cleaning.

“The flea market is also offering this space to charities to come down and rally-up support. They can also hand out leaflets and give out information,” Mansell added.

One the flea market’s organisers, Maria Loizou said:  “We hope that the free space will generate more business for our paying traders while also helping to support charities and give individuals the chance to sell their items,” Loizou said.

The free stall is in the outdoor space. Venders must bring their own umbrellas.  There is a limit of one month’s use on the stall space. If stall users see they can make a profit, they can move into the regular market area and become a paying vendor. Otherwise organisers feel some vendors will take advantage.

There is no contract but applicants must present identification and fill out a form, agreeing they will not be selling anything illegal. The person who signs up to use the space must be the one to use it.

The flea market is open every weekend from 9am until 7pm. Admission and parking is free.  Regular fees for stall space depend on whether it is in the outdoor or indoor space. The cheapest is €25 per day for an outside stall. The market has been running for eight years.

It is situated just after the entrance to the Asomatos village and is about 1km from the water park.
