New deputy NG chief sworn in

The new Deputy Chief of the National Guard (NG), Lieutenant general Andreas Papapavlou, was sworn in on Monday in the presence of president Nicos Anastasiades at the presidential palace.
“Lieutenant general, following a cabinet decision, from today you are assuming your duties as deputy chief of the national guard during an admittedly difficult period for our country and our people,” Anastasiades said, speaking to Papapavlou.
During this critical period for Cyprus, the president added, at a time of moral and social decay, the NG and its staff are called to face these problems with professionalism to help the country.
“Lieutenant general, the government has shown its confidence in you by appointing you as deputy chief. Your obligations will be many, however knowing your capabilities and the excellent cooperation you will receive from the chief of the NG, I’m sure you will meet our expectations,” Anastasiades said.
Papapavlou thanked the president and the cabinet for showing their trust in him.
“Aware of the weight of responsibility of this position, I assure you that I will continue to exercise my new duties with dedication and responsibility,” he said.
The ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Fotis Fotiou, Chief of the NG General Stylianos Nasis, the head of the president’s office Panayiotis Antoniou and other high-ranking officials.
