Man crushed by tractor

A 51-YEAR-OLD man was killed in a field between the Alektoras community and Pissouri on Saturday when the tractor he was driving fell into a 10 metre ditch and crushed him, police said.

Panayiotis Sophocleous from Anogyra and a Paphos resident was killed shortly before 10am as he was attempting to spread manure on his land along with one of his sons.

“In his efforts to reverse his tractor, it fell into a 10 metre ditch and was crushed by the vehicle, killing him instantly,” Limassol CID spokesman Ioannis Soteriades said.

The British Bases fire service was called to free the body from the wreckage.

Soteriades called on all farmers to be extremely careful when working machinery.

“It is a shame for someone to go out and try to make a living and not return home,” he added.
