Police believe they have foiled church theft ring

THREE men were remanded on Saturday for two days in connection with a number of burglaries and thefts in the Paphos district.

The three aged 30, 37 and 40 from Larnaca were arrested on Friday following a witness statement made against them.

One of the three admitted he was involved in the burglaries of ten churches in the Paphos district as well as three other districts, Paphos police spokesman Nicos Tsiappis said.

“It appears we have foiled an organised team that was stealing from churches and our investigations are now centred on locating the stolen goods,” he said.

He called on the public to inform police if they come across any objects which may have been stolen from churches.
