Increased interest of US in Cyprus talks

Cyprus’ new upgraded role in the wider region, the Cyprus problem as well as energy issues were the focus of a meeting held Monday in Nicosia between President Nicos Anastasiades and Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US State Department, Eric Rubin.
In statements on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the Maritime Cyprus 2013 conference, President Anastasiades said that his meeting with the US official “highlights the increased interest of the US in the efforts to resume a new round of Cyprus talks”.
According to CNA sources, during the meeting they discussed the Cyprus issue, ahead of the resumption of the Cyprus talks, expected to take place this autumn.
The same sources said the meeting also focused on the wider alliances in the region as regards the energy sector in the framework of Cyprus’ role as a factor of stability in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean.
