Tyre checks

AROUND 600 cars have been inspected so far this week by police to see if their tyres were properly maintained.

The campaign began on Monday at the weighing station on the highway from Nicosia to Limassol.

It is a joint effort from REACTION, youth organisation for road safety, and the police traffic department.

Many road accidents could be avoided if vehicles had the proper tyres or if their tyres were properly maintained, a statement from REACTION said.

“Our goal is to provide the general  public, passengers and road users, with scientific and objective information about road safety when it comes to tyres as checking them on a regular basis is the pivotal point for a secure journey,” the statement said.
