Nicosia blast damages car

Police officers examining the scene

A bomb blast damaged a car belonging to a 45-year-old Nicosia man, police said on Tuesday.

The car had been parked in the yard of his Ayios Dhometios home when the improvised explosive device went off at 12.40am.

The blast damaged the front end of the vehicle and shattered the windows of an adjacent house, police said.

The Nicosia CID is investigating the incident.

Small explosive devices, as well as arson, are a frequent phenomenon in Cyprus, and are mostly used to convey messages or warnings.

They usually target property and injuries to people are rare.
