House ratifies Cyprus-UN Syria agreement

PARLIAMENT on Thursday ratified the agreement between the Republic of Cyprus and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and the United Nations regarding the establishment on the territory of the Republic of a support base for the joint UN-OPCW mission for Syria.

The agreement also stipulates the provision of facilities for the mission’s safety and operations in the island,

According to the provisions of the agreement, Cyprus will afford the joint mission the privileges and immunities as determined by the UN Convention on Privileges and Immunities, of which the Republic of Cyprus is a party.

It also provides that the Republic of Cyprus must exclude officials and other members of the mission from presenting visas and provide all required facilities for the unhindered entry, stay and exit from the territory of the Republic both to them and their equipment.
