Partial eclipse will be visible from Cyprus

THERE will be a total eclipse of the sun on Sunday afternoon, but it will only be partially visible from Cyprus.

If the weather permits, those interested in the eclipse can begin to witness the phenomenon at 3.13pm until 4.31pm. The eclipse will reach its peak at 3.53pm.

The blackout percentage of the eclipse in Nicosia will be 7.2 per cent, 7.4 per cent in Paphos and 6.8 per cent at Apostolos Andreas in the Karpas.

The Fakas Institute invites everyone who is interested in the phenomenon to visit the institute from 3pm until 4.30pm to view the eclipse from their telescopes.

“This is the safest way of viewing the eclipse. The institute will also offer special glasses to those present as it is strictly forbidden to look at the eclipse with the naked eye or when wearing sunglasses,” a statement said.

The institute is at 78 Larnacas Avenue in Pallouriotissa Nicosia.
