Kormakitis gathering

MEMBERS OF the local community and parliament visited the Maronite Church of Ayios Georgios tou Sporou in Kormakitis in the north on Sunday to celebrate the name day of the church’s patron saint.

Speaking at the service, Maronite Archbishop Josef Soueif said that Cyprus has an important role to play in the wider area due to its rich history and culture.
“In Cyprus the culture of brotherhood exists, where people from different cultures can live together in love and peace. Today the region requires this way of thinking,” he said.

Head of ruling party DISY, Averof Neophytou said that Cyprus is big enough to fit everyone but far too small to be partitioned.“We hope that soon the prosperity of this land can be shared by Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Maronites, Armenians and Latins, leftists and rightists, centrists and socialists,” he said.
