First-ever Startup Weekend slated for December

THOSE who have been paying attention to the rumbling know there are people in Cyprus passionately committed to pushing growth through innovation and those who want to join in should save the date for Startup Weekend Cyprus.

Pencilled in for December 6, 7 and 8 to take up a Friday and a weekend, the event will join existing ventures in helping would-be entrepreneurs network, learn and get help in startups. It will be the first year of a Startup Weekend in Cyprus with the island joining a global community backed by heavyweights such as Google and Amazon and claiming to comprise the biggest community of entrepreneurs with some 400 past events over 100 countries in 2011.

Startup Weekend Cyprus is supported by Microsoft, PWC, Hellenic Bank, and MTN and will give people the opportunity to pitch their idea, get feedback from peers and formulate teams around the most popular ideas. “Then it’s a 54 hour frenzy of business model creation, coding, designing, and market validation. The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders with another opportunity for critical feedback,” the organisers say on their website.
